Greenhouse Progress Update

School is out and summer is in full swing, and our greenhouse is also in full production! Here is an update on the project progress.

On May 5, construction began. Benjamin Meeks and a group of volunteers pounded and cemented in the posts for the frame, and on May 8, the frame went up.

On May 14, students and teachers planted all the vegetables and herbs we started in February. We also planted potatoes and zucchini, summer squash, butternut squash, cilantro, and bush bean seeds. It was a full and fun morning of gardening!

On May 15, another group of volunteers put some finishing touches on the frame and put up chicken wire around the perimeter to keep the critters out.

Currently the garden is growing very well, and we are starting to see the fruits of our labors. We decided to wait to put the plastic on until the fall when the temperatures start to drop and we are ready to put in the fall/winter crops. We have a few finishing touches to complete, but other than that we are just tending the garden and looking forward to a full harvest that students can enjoy when they return to school in August.

"The one who sows righteousness reaps a sure reward." – Proverbs 11:18b
